Mantua Spring Dance

The Mantua Spring Dance is next Friday, May 31, 6:00-8:30pm in the Mantua Gym! This will be a fun-filled, Hawaiian Luau-themed evening of music, dancing, pizza, refreshments, and socializing for our students and their families. There is no charge to attend, and pizza, concessions and Kona Ice will be available for purchase.

The event is open to all students in grades PK-6 and their families.

Parents/caring adults must remain onsite (this is not a drop-off event). We still need parent volunteers to make this event a success! Please sign-up here to volunteer.

And save time and skip the lines by pre-ordering Papa John's whole pizzas!

We will have two pick-up times available: 6:00pm and 7:15pmPre-orders will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis until a limit of 40 pizzas per pick-up time is reached.

Extra Yearbooks Available!

Did you miss your opportunity to purchase a yearbook? There are a number of extras available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please complete the form at the following link to reserve a yearbook - https://forms.gle/PvWDNv23P5vSWDFUA.

Once you have completed the form and received an email confirming that a yearbook is available, please pay $20 to the front office. Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school.

Mantua ES Food Drive

Please take note of a Food Drive taking place at Mantua ES starting this week and lasting through May 31. Luis Uribe Gamboa, Mantua's fabulous parent liaison, aims to support families from our own community and this food drive will help him replenish his food pantry in time for summer break. 

If you are interested in this completely voluntary effort, there are two ways to donate:

1. There is now a large plastic bin located inside the main school entrance. Or,
2. I will be making a trip to Costco for this purpose and you can contribute to that, please email Ali Ackermann at [email protected] to get Venmo or PayPal info.

No donation is too small, so if you are able to grab a few cans or an extra box of cereal, every little bit helps. Items most needed are: Oil; Tortilla Flour (Maseca); Dry Beans (red, black, etc, but not canned); Rice; Pancake flour & syrup; pasta & pasta sauce; canned foods (tomatoes, fruit, vegetables, and tuna); ramen soup; snacks; coffee; sugar; cereal; tooth paste; tooth brushes; body soap. Thank you!

Woodson High School Girls' Team Intro to Tennis Camp 

 Intro to Tennis Camp for ages 5-10, June 13 and 14 from 9-11:30am at the Woodson tennis courts. Raquets provided.

One day $125, register for both days for $99. Half hour extended care available for an extra $20 per day!

Mantua Wins Big at Regional Science Fair!

Mantua students competed in the NVSE Regional Science Fair on May 4, bringing home 11 awards!

Please congratulate these kids on their achievements!

Come see what Girl Scouts is all about as our Service Unit (including all Mantua troops) celebrates another great year of Girl Scouts, enjoys ice cream, and cheers on the bridging troops who are moving to the next level of Scouts.

Join Scout BSA Girl Troop 1533G!

Troop 1533G is a thriving all-girl scouting troop based in Mantua/Fairfax area.. Our girl troop was founded in Spring 2019 by a group of Mantua Elementary students, alumna, and families, and we have since grown to have girls not only from Mantua, but also scouts attending schools in Fairfax, Vienna, Annandale, and Falls Church.

Our meeting locations are conveniently located at Mantua ES and Elks Lodge at the intersection of Route 50 and Prosperity Ave.

Our troop has opportunities to camp each month, hikes, kayaks/rafts, studies plants and wildlife, stargazes, and more! 

Eligibility: At least 10 years old, currently in the 5th grade or above or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award. Older siblings welcome- we have scouts ages 10-17!

6th Grade Promotion Ceremony and Party!

The promotion ceremony will be the morning of 6/11 at Woodson High School, followed by a lunch and party hosted by the 6th grade parents back at Mantua. The party will include games, music, snacks, fun activities, and time to hang with friends!

In the meantime, we are now collecting $30 from each student to cover the costs of the lunch, party, and t-shirt. The t-shirts will be handed out the morning of the Gettysburg field trip to wear that day and the day of the party. Mantua Talent Show- Audition Form Extended to May 5!

Do you play an instrument, sing or dance? Do you like to perform magic? Do you want to
demonstrate your martial arts prowess? Then why not enter this year’s talent show?

ALL acts will be accepted, provided they meet the following conditions:

• The act is two minutes in length or less;
• The act is appropriate for all age levels (i.e., Rated G);
• The audition form is submitted by the extended deadline, May 5
  
  

Students may participate in one act only, either as an individual or as a group.

Drama Club Spring Performance - Aristocats Kids

The Mantua Drama Club is proud to present Aristocats Kids the musical! With the help of a smooth talking tomcat, a family of Parisian felines set to inherit a fortune from their owner try to make it back home after a jealous butler kidnaps them and leaves them in the country. Don't miss this heart-warming tale brought to life by our talented cast of Mantua students.

Performances will be Friday May 3 at 7pm & Saturday May 4 at 2pm and 6pm in the Mantua gym. Tickets will be $8 at the door and we are also offering a chance to buy ahead of time: Wednesday May 1 and Thursday May 2, 5:30-5:45pm and 8:15-8:30pm in the Mantua Gym.

Concessions will be sold at the shows: NO pizza this time, but plenty of fun snacks and sweets. We accept cash and credit card. We hope to see you there!

Troop 1533G is a thriving all-girl scouting troop based in Mantua/Fairfax area.. Our girl troop was founded in Spring 2019 by a group of Mantua Elementary students, alumna, and families, and we have since grown to have girls not only from Mantua, but also scouts attending schools in Fairfax, Vienna, Annandale, and Falls Church.

Our meeting locations are conveniently located at Mantua ES and Elks Lodge at the intersection of Route 50 and Prosperity Ave.

Our troop has opportunities to camp each month, hikes, kayaks/rafts, studies plants and wildlife, stargazes, and more! 

Eligibility: At least 10 years old, currently in the 5th grade or above or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award. Older siblings welcome- we have scouts ages 10-17!

Mantua Read-A-Thon

The 3rd Annual Mantua PTA Read-a-Thon Fundraiser will take place April 15-26. Over the course of these two weeks, students will be encouraged to read, read, read! Students can track minutes online and be eligible for some fun raffle prizes! This is one of our PTA's biggest fundraisers, so we thank you in advance for your support. 

Before the fundraiser begins, parents will have received an email link to the private donation page for their student directly from our fundraising platform 99pledges.  This page also serves as the tracker for your student’s time spent reading.  Donations are tax-deductible, and funds raised go directly toward educational needs at Mantua.

We encourage reading at all skill levels; every student can participate!

Racoon Run

Please support the Mantua Kids Care Club by coming out for the 24th annual Raccoon Run! Race Day is 5/11 with the 1 mile fun run kicking off at 8 am, followed by the 5K at 8:30. As always all proceeds will go to Life With Cancer.

demonstrate your martial arts prowess? Then why not enter this year’s talent show?

ALL acts will be accepted, provided they meet the following conditions:

• The act is two minutes in length or less;
• The act is appropriate for all age levels (i.e., Rated G);
• The audition form is submitted by the deadline, April 26th
  
  

Students may participate in one act only, either as an individual or as a group.

Attention 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders – Science Workshop this Thursday, April 18 !

The Woodson RISE Club is hosting a science workshop this week after school on Thursday, April 18, from 4:05pm to 5:00pm. RISE stands for Research in Science and Engineering Club, whose mission is to engage kids of all ages in the sciences - specifically through research projects. The president of this organization is Mantua Alum, Julia Victor.

 This workshop will teach our young scientists about the Scientific Method through testing sugary and dyed drinks on eggs. Students will learn about dental health along the way!

 Last week, the flyer with the Registration Form went home. If you did not receive one, please email the teacher sponsor, Ms. Sullivan, at [email protected].

 We look forward to seeing your 4th, 5th, or 6th grader at the workshop for this collaboration with high school students who love science and engineering!

Mantua Garden April 14 Spring Clean-Up & Volunteers Needed!

The annual Spring Clean-Up will be held on Sunday, April 14 from 1-3 pm beginning in the Discovery Garden beds above the playground.

Gardeners of all ability are welcome; children (with parents) are encouraged to join in.

We will be trimming, weeding, edging, laying new compost/mulch, and adding new plants.

Volunteers Needed!

We are very lucky to get support from the PTA and the school, but we need volunteers to pitch in to ensure the gardens look their best throughout the year! Training can be provided for anyone who would like it! 

We are looking for support in these necessary tasks:

• Weeding Crew (can be done when schedules permit)
• Learning Garden (veggies!)
• Watering Crew (June- August)
• Learning Garden Helpers (assist teachers/students with seasonal plantings & harvesting)

Kids Volunteer Day, April 10, 2024

Keep Your Kids Busy on the Student Holiday! FCPS will be closed on April 10, but Kids Give Back is open for another Kids Volunteer Day. This is a fun, engaging, and fulfilling way for kids, ages 6-12, to participate in meaningful volunteer work, meet non-profit leaders, play games, enjoy a pizza lunch, work in teams, and more.

This event is limited to 24 students, so register soon!

Mantua ES Read-A-Thon 2024! 

The 3rd Annual Mantua PTA Read-a-Thon Fundraiser will take place April 15-26. Over the course of these two weeks, students will be encouraged to read, read, read! Students can track minutes online and be eligible for some fun raffle prizes! This is one of our PTA's biggest fundraisers, so we thank you in advance for your support. 

Before the fundraiser begins, parents will have received an email link to the private donation page for their student directly from our fundraising platform 99pledges.  This page also serves as the tracker for your student’s time spent reading.  Donations are tax-deductible, and funds raised go directly toward educational needs at Mantua.

We encourage reading at all skill levels; every student can participate!

Mantua Garden April 14 Spring Clean-Up & Volunteers Needed!

The annual Spring Clean-Up will be held on Sunday, April 14 from 1-3 pm beginning in the Discovery Garden beds above the playground.

Gardeners of all ability are welcome; children (with parents) are encouraged to join in.

We will be trimming, weeding, edging, laying new compost/mulch, and adding new plants.

Volunteers Needed!

We are very lucky to get support from the PTA and the school, but we need volunteers to pitch in to ensure the gardens look their best throughout the year! Training can be provided for anyone who would like it! 

We are looking for support in these necessary tasks:

• Weeding Crew (can be done when schedules permit)
• Learning Garden (veggies!)
• Watering Crew (June- August)
• Learning Garden Helpers (assist teachers/students with seasonal plantings & harvesting)

Frost MS PTA: Seeking Board Members for 2024-2025

The FROST PTA is looking for new Board Members for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Frost PTA is looking to fill the roles of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary with parent volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year. This group will work together (mostly virtually) to lead volunteer efforts to engage with families and educators in activities such as (but not limited to):

• Restaurant Spirit Nights
• Educator Grants
• Frost Family Night welcoming incoming 7thgraders and their families
• BINGO Night
• Educator Recognition (Teacher Appreciation Week, Lunches, Tokens of Support)
• 8thGrade Celebration

Elections will take place during the next Frost PTA meeting on May 14.

Keep Your Kids Busy on the Student Holiday! FCPS will be closed on April 10, but Kids Give Back is open for another Kids Volunteer Day. This is a fun, engaging, and fulfilling way for kids, ages 6-12, to participate in meaningful volunteer work, meet non-profit leaders, play games, enjoy a pizza lunch, work in teams, and more.

Mantua Spring Dance - Seeking Volunteers! 

The Mantua Spring Dance will return this year on Friday, May 31! This is the last year that the current volunteers will be coordinating the event, so we are actively seeking two volunteers to join the spring dance coordinating committee and to lead the planning for the next couple of years.

Nominating Committee Members Needed!

The Mantua PTA Executive Board is in need of 2-3 PTA Members to serve on the Nominating Committee to put forth the new slate of Executive Board Members for the 2024-25 school year.  This is a very important, but short-term volunteer role that is not very time consuming.  Each volunteer will serve now until the new Board is elected in May.

Mantua Heritage Night- Tomorrow! 

Heritage Night is a wonderful time to celebrate Mantua’s many cultures and their unique background! Come enjoy a special dish, make a craft, listen to music, and look at pictures of the many different countries that the students at Mantua represent.

Heritage Night will be held in the Mantua gym Wednesday March 6, from 6:00- 7:30pm.

Free Show of Woodson's The Last Firefly

Saturday March 9th at 10am will be a FREE performance for any FCPS student, with a pay-what-you-can ticket option for parents between $0-20. 

This 60 minute show is a fun and dynamic adventure presented by the Woodson Theatre Arts class. This performance takes place in the Woodson Auditorium (entrance 18).

The Last Firefly description: The fantastic story of Boom and Crash, the children of Thunder, is a mythical adventure about discovering one's inner strength. After being forced out of their home at the hand of a cruel stepfather, Boom sets out on a journey of self-discovery where battles against the forces of nature are courageously fought.

Recommended for grades 2nd and above - because it contains mild theatrical violence and scenes of action that may frighten younger children.

Fairfax Little League - Registration for Spring Season is Open

Registration is now open for the spring season of the Fairfax Little League. Registration for the kid pitch levels (generally 3rd grade and above) will remain open until February 15. Registration for the lower levels will remain open until March 1.

Spring Enrichment Registration Begins TOMMOROW! 

Mantua PTA has paired with Baroody Camps to bring you another exciting selection of classes! Classes will run March 11th through May 16th. Registration begins TOMORROW at 9AM  and ends Wednesday, February 28th at 11:59PM.

Mantua ES Heritage Night

Heritage Night is a wonderful time to celebrate Mantua’s many cultures and their unique background! Come enjoy a special dish, make a craft, listen to music, and look at pictures of the many different countries that the students at Mantua represent.

We need many participants to make this event  a success.  If you’d like to participate in Heritage Night, click here for the form. 

Art Department: Helpers and Wipes Needed! 

We need your assistance making this our best year yet, come join us in prepping art materials, no experience needed.
