10 Reasons Mantua Stands Out

Mantua Elementary serves students in grades PreSchool to 6th.  Known for its diverse population, the school promotes equity, academic excellence, and social and emotional well being.

Academic Achievement

Mantua's commitment to academic excellence is evident in our strong assessment results. Mantua’s Standards of Accreditation pass rate for students in grades 3-6 who took the Standards of Learning assessments was 94% in Mathematics and 95% in Reading. 89% of third-grade students are reading on or above grade level. Additionally, 43% of Mantua’s grade 3 – 6 students receive advanced math services. These outstanding achievements highlight our dedication to providing high-quality instruction and cultivating a love of learning in every student.

We Learn With Our Environment

Mantua students learn with their environment, fostering a deep connection to nature. Through partnerships with local and state forestry departments, students actively participate in tree-planting initiatives, beautifying the school campus and benefiting the local ecosystem. The school's learning garden provides a hands-on laboratory for exploring plant life, while the track and sensory paths encourage physical activity and sensory exploration, promoting a holistic approach to education. Recycling and composting as part of our Get2Green initiative creates a sense of responsibility to sustainability and conserving the limited resources of our planet.

Feature Fridays: Shining a Spotlight on Our Amazing Staff

Mantua staff members are celebrated for their outstanding commitment to our students.   Every Friday, we spotlight dedicated team members through Feature Fridays, highlighting their contributions on Instagram and throughout our school community.

Staff encourage colleagues with value-added, uplifting comments. We believe that a positive school culture starts with celebrating the incredible work of our staff.

We celebrate the fine arts!

Mantua's Fine Arts program is a vibrant hub of creativity! Our talented student artists amaze us daily, and their stunning artwork graces our school walls throughout the year. From collaborative masterpieces to decorative seasonal art displays to the annual Pyramid Art Show, students have countless opportunities to showcase their artistic abilities. They can even compete in the yearbook cover contest or see their work published in the Fairfax Connection Newspaper. Chorus members explore their vocal talents and perform with their choral colleagues at the annual Pyramid Concert. Our Band and Strings programs provide students with an exceptional musical education. As they learn to play their instruments and explore music from various cultures and time periods, they develop essential skills like teamwork, discipline, and creativity. Music education seamlessly integrates with core subjects, enhancing students' understanding of PE, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

A Thriving School Culture

At Mantua, we prioritize a positive and supportive learning environment. Our weekly Movement Mondays initiative promotes a healthy lifestyle and fosters community by bringing students, staff, and families together for a run, walk or roll around the track. We nurture strong community partnerships, with our active PTA supporting a variety of initiatives.

The PTA's Wish Fund provides staff with resources for innovative projects, and they ensure robust after-school programs, including theater, basketball, running club, Odyssey of the Mind, Chess Club, and academic clubs. By working together, we create a thriving school culture where students can learn and grow in creative capacities. https://mantuaes.fcps.edu/features/aristocats-musical-mantua-drama-club

Student Opportunities & Programs

Mantua students have opportunities to explore areas of interest through extracurricular clubs, including a creative writing club, a technology youth exploration club, a Science Fair, Math Counts, our Young Scholars Lego robotics club, and much more!  Students work independently and collaboratively to create masterpieces showcasing their talents.  Whether it is constructing and programming a robotic Ferris Wheel, or writing the next best short story, our students are proud of what they learn and what they can do.

Family Partners in Learning

We empower families to support student success through initiatives such as Family Math & Literacy Night and PTA-hosted parent information sessions. These events provide opportunities for parents to engage in their child's education, learn effective strategies, and connect with other families in the school community. Family Math and Literacy Night
