Back to School Night

Mantua's Back to School Night will be this Wednesday (tomorrow!) from 6:00-8:00 pm. 

Teachers will be presenting sessions within their classrooms. Each classroom teacher will present at both sessions, allowing you to choose either or to attend both sessions if you have multiple children. *Childcare will not be available.

We have secured overflow parking at the Mantua Hills Swim Club parking lot, with school bus shuttles to and from the Mantua ES main entrance to support our parking needs. Those not attending the second session are asked to leave following the first session to make parking spaces available.

We look forward to seeing you!

6:30 - 7:00 PM - Parking Transition 

Light refreshments are available in the cafeteria for those remaining for Session #2.

Third through sixth grade students are eligible to register starting August 29, 2023.  Registration will

Chat 'n' Chew Registration is Now Open!

Have one (or a few) budding book lovers in your house? Want to build literacy skills? Just feel like reading a good book and hanging out with friends? 

Join Mantua's popular student book club that meets once a month from December thru April discussing great books with new (and old) friends. Parent volunteers lead groups of 6-8 kids in discussions and fun activities. Books will be selected by school librarians and Chat 'n' Chew volunteers and provided to participants to keep.

Kids Give Back--Costumes for Kids

Costumes for Kids Fall Volunteer Festival invites families to prepare costumes for elementary school children in low-resource communities Kids Give Back, a nonprofit organization that inspires elementary-age students to volunteer, will host its third-annual Costumes for Kids Fall Volunteer Festival on October 21, 2023, 11am-3pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 8922 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax.

The event brings kids and their families together to prepare 125 storybook character costumes for students who attend Title 1 schools in Northern Virginia. In addition to preparing costumes such as Little Mermaid, Mario Bros, Spiderman, and others, attendees will enjoy traditional festival activities, including: • Pumpkin painting • Face painting • Crafts • Tattoo station • Games • Snacks and ice cream • Raffle baskets.  

Festival tickets are $10/person, $35 for a family of four and free for ages five and under. Details are available at www.kidsgiveback.org/events.

Mantua Basketball 

The Mantua PTA Community Basketball League is a developmental organization which
embraces student athletes with a wide variety of skill levels and emphasizes teamwork,
skill development, and sportsmanship while teaching the fundamentals of basketball in
a neighborly environment.

3rd- 6th students are eligible to register starting August 29, 2023. Registration will end on September 19, 2023. More information can be found here, including player evaluation dates.

All eligible Mantua ES students are

Volunteers are needed! 

The league is always in need of volunteers. Last season we had more than 250
students participate with less than 50 volunteers coaching, refereeing, or assisting with
logistics.

 Please consider donating your time
by signing-up as a coach and/or referee to support this great league and help provide
this amazing resource to our child athletes.

 

Mantua Academic Competition Programs: Interest Survey and Parent Information Meeting

Mantua's academic competition programs offer opportunities for students to try new things or delve deeper into their favorite subjects. This includes the First Lego League, Science Olympiad, and Science Fair! 

If you are interested in getting your kids involved in academic competition activities, please fill the 2023-2024 Academic Competition Interest Survey (https://forms.gle/v4UbkusUgMBEbBGFA). You have no obligation to participate- this is to gauge interest!

Enrichment Program Help Needed - Paid Position!

Mantua PTA in partnership with Baroody Camps, is in need of an on-site after school Enrichment coordinator. The on-site coordinator will work with the Enrichment chair to ensure after school programs run smoothly.

The shift is Monday through Thursday from 3:45PM until about 5:20PM. Baroody camps pays $37.50 per shift (paid bi-weekly) plus one free class! Days can be split between two people, but both must apply together.

Raccoon Runners is Back!

The Raccoon Runners will be hitting the streets of Mantua again this Fall! Registration will begin September 7 at 8 AM. Enrollment is capped at 50 runners and typically fills up in a few minutes, so set your alarms now!

ES’s Raccoon Runners is a positive youth development program for third through sixth graders, empowering them to be more confident and healthier as they are strengthened over an 8-week period through running and other fitness activities. The program focuses on building physical and mental strength through exercise.

We meet every Tuesday and Friday morning 8:00-9:05 AM at the Mantua gym from October 3 through Thanksgiving Day. Runners takes place rain or shine as long as school is in session and includes a warmup and approximately 30-40 minutes of coach guided running/exercise followed by a snack and, time permitting, a discussion of issues relevant to their peer group.

Registration is $80 and includes a t-shirt, snacks after each practice, and Turkey Trot race registration for your runner. Questions? Email Kris Mack at [email protected] for more information.

Room Parent - Send email reminders to class families about PTA events and fundraisers, communicate with parents to coordinate teacher gifts, help party coordinators plan seasonal class parties, this job can be done remotely

Tuesday Folder Helper - Comes to the classroom on a weekly basis at a time coordinated with the teacher to stuff Tuesday folders that will go home with each student. Since this requires someone to come weekly, this position can be split between two parents who alternate weeks

Party Coordinators - Coordinators get a set date and time from the teacher and coordinate games, crafts, snacks, etc. for the class, often soliciting the other class parents for supply donations and extra volunteer help.

Mantua Drama Club Information Meeting

We are excited to announce that Mantua Drama Club will once again partner with Julie Johnston's iContact Coaching to create a theater experience for our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students! We are thrilled that this year, we will be doing two musicals, Annie in the Fall and Aristocats in the Spring.  

We highly encourage parents of interested students to join the parent information meeting on August 29th at 8pm. We will go through the schedule of both the fall and spring shows, audition process, lottery, etc in great detail and have time to answer all questions.

Planning is underway for a super fun promotion party for our 6th graders on Thursday, June 15 from 1:00-3:30pm following the promotion ceremony. We will have a pizza lunch, games, photo booth, DJ, treats and so much more, but we need your help!

Yearbook Distribution

Yearbooks will be distributed during the week of June 12-16.  If you’ve not yet ordered your yearbook, and you’d like one, please contact Ms. Easton at [email protected]. Yearbooks are $19 each. Payment will be made through the front office, but please confirm the availability with Ms. Easton before paying in the front office.

EduKit - Supply Kit Order

The Mantua Elementary PTA offers the EduKit program as a convenient option for busy families to order school supplies for the 2023/2024 year. EduKits include the supplies approved by our school.

Your student's order will be delivered to your home before school starts.

Order by July 1, 2023, for the best available pricing. Extended ordering is open for an additional fee from July 02 - July 14 and will be delivered to your home shortly before school begins.

Last Day of School

As a reminder, the last school day for the academic year 2022-2023 will be June 16.  This will also include a two-hour early release with dismissal at 2:05 PM. We encourage you to help your students finish strong with good attendance and diligent study habits in these last few weeks.

Mantua Drama for 23-24 School Year

The Mantua Drama program was proud to have been able to put on productions of the Lion King and Little Mermaid this year, and we are excited to have another two incredible shows for the 2023 -24 school year directed by Julie Johnston! The Drama program is open to 4th, 5th and 6th graders. *Please note, we will go to a lottery for 4th and 5th graders if more people register than available spots. 6th graders will be given preference for all spots.

We are THRILLED to share that our fall show will be Annie and our spring show will be Disney's Aristocats. 

Please note the key dates below. Anyone who is participating in the drama program needs to be available for all rehearsals and TECH WEEK and the show weeks are mandatory. We felt it was important to share these dates now, as we know that these are incredibly busy times of year, so we want to give parents ample time to think about schedules and if it's something your kids want to commit to.

Mantua Field Days June 6th and 7th

We are happy to announce: Field Days are back! 

This is a fun, half-day event with 16 active stations where your student may participate.  To make this a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, we want to give parents a few reminders:

*Students should wear sneakers.  Crocs, Flip-flops, and sandals are NOT allowed.

*Please plan for sunscreen and/or a hat.

*Students must wear school-appropriate clothing.  Bathing suits are not permitted unless worn under a T-shirt and shorts. 

*Please bring a change of dry clothes and a towel for after the event.  

*Parent Volunteers - Parents who have signed up with your classroom teacher to serve as a volunteer, please report to the gym at 9:15 AM or 12:45 PM.

Yearbooks

There are a limited number of extra yearbooks available for purchase. If you would like to reserve one of these yearbooks (first come, first served), please email Kate Easton at [email protected]. Students will receive their yearbooks on the last day of school. Please wait to submit payment until Mrs. Easton has confirmed that a yearbook is available for you.

Music Intent Form for Rising 5th and 6th Graders

Music intent forms are due for rising 5th and 6th graders by Friday, June 9th. Every student should fill out a form, even if not attending Mantua next year.
